Getting Caught in the Rundown
The response to “The Rundown” has been overwhelmingly positive. There seems to be a huge desire to have a non-profit focused weekly newsletter to talk about trends and ideas in the sector. We will work hard to add some more local flavor to the newsletter and of course, if you have some ideas that you want to share send them along to pinnaclestrategiesltd@gmail.com.
Pitch Piqua Finalists Announced
There are some pretty interesting things happening with the Piqua Community Foundation. Earlier this year, the foundation announced their first “Pitch Piqua” contest; think of it as philanthropy meets “Shark Tank”. After sifting through scores of applications, the Foundation announced three finalists. Piqua City Schools, Piqua Compassion Network and Child Care Choices.
Each of the three finalists will pitch their ideas in a community event in March 2022. The winning organization will receive $50,000 from the foundation. You can learn more about the Pitch Piqua contest by clicking here.
Back to the Classroom
This week the Paul G. Duke Academy for Community Leadership at Edison State Community College announced that the 19th version of the Academy will be offered in 2022. Sessions will be held on January 19th, February 16th, March 16th, April 20th and will be capped by the annual Mosaic of Community Leadership Conference that will be held on May 18th.
The program is designed for not only executive directors, but also board members as well. It is a great program and is highly regarded for delivering quality content as well as providing great networking opportunities for those in the sector.
The cost for the program is $299 and more information can be found by contacting Rick Hanes at Edison State Community College at foundation@edisonohio.edu.
Non-Profits as a Second (or Third, or Fourth) Act
There was an interesting article on Marketwatch that you can access here that discussed individuals leaving the corporate world for the non-profit sector. The article talks about folks in the prime of the careers that wanted to chase their own personal passions and started in this sector.
My take? The story may seem unique, but it’s actually pretty common. As I have talked to many folks in this sector, one thing is pretty clear, no one ever grew up wanting to be a non-profit executive director. It just kind of happened. Perhaps we were donors, volunteers or a client and we were drawn by the passion and mission of the organizations we interacted with. Next thing you know, we are working in these organizations.
